My last supper
I just finished what could be my last meal for over 2 weeks.
I’ll be updating daily with conditions, and progress. I’ll try and post detailed accounts of my day, but it may only be a couple of sentences.
2,200,000 deaths occur on average per year, due to unsafe drinking water. 90% of those deaths occur in children under the age of 5.
I’m Mark. Over the past 2 years I have seen first hand the people that I just mentioned, without clean drinking water as a part of Ethos Water in the Sahara. We have helped a lot of people, but not nearly as much as I would like. I know that I can do more, and tomorrow at midnight, I plan to start. I will not eat again, starting Monday, March 1st, until I can raise enough money to bring clean drinking water to over 2,000,000 people.
Here’s a chart, so you can see how many children’s lives, even a small donation, can change.
$1 - 85 approx.
$5 - 425 approx.
$10 - 850 approx.
$15 - 1,275 approx.
$50 - 4,250 approx.
$100 - 8,500 approx.
$200 - 17,000 approx.
$300 - 25,500 approx.
$500 - 42,500 approx.
$1,000 - 85,000 approx.
$2,500 - 212,500 approx.
$5,000 - 425,000 approx.
$10,000 - 850,000 approx.
$15,000 - 1,275,000 approx.
$23,500 - 2,000,000 approx.
The money that is raised will be donated directly to the UNICEF program, “Water for Life”, and will be used to drill wells in areas all over the world.
The water that comes from these wells will not only be used for drinking, but water is a huge part of medicine, especially in children. And when water is contaminated with bacteria, it can lead to disease and death.
Anyone can help, for the price of a single iTunes music download, you could bring clean water to over 80 people. For the price of a dinner for 2 people, you could save the lives of over 2,000.
Starting tonight, I will know how it feels to be one of these children. I will only drink water 3 times a day, and it will only be 8 fl oz. I will know what it feels to be thirsty, but not able to drink water without the fear of it causing you to become ill.
If you are able to help, help. If you can’t give, then help by telling this story to someone else. We all need to understand that we can help people, instead of putting them out of mind.
